BBB IT Asset Recycling
The Standard provides a common set of processes, safety measures, and documentation requirements for businesses that recycle e-waste. BBB is rigorously and independently audited, emphasizing quality, safety, and transparency. Developed by a group of recycling stakeholders and facilitated by the EPA, the BBB accreditation standard is a set of voluntary principles and guidelines designed to promote and assess responsible practices for electronics recyclers. BBB requires implementing a management system which is accountable for practices affecting worker health and safety, security, the environment, and the downstream management, both domestically and internationally, of end-of-life electronic material and equipment. It encompasses rather than replaces the legal obligations of electronics recyclers.
Additionally, BBB is particularly focused on electronics which contain cathode ray tubes, circuit boards, items containing mercury and PCBs, and batteries, and seeks to ensure that these materials are not incinerated or land filled. To make sure we are meeting these goals, eRecyc’s process for handling of materials is based on a Reuse, Recover and Recycle hierarchy. The most responsible way for handling items that come into our facility is to first test for possible reuse through re-marketing or donation to nonprofits.
Anything that cannot be reused is broken down into their core components, and then sent for processing to become new raw material. Our Zero Landfill Policy also requires us to vet our processors to ensure they meet our same strict practices for properly handling hazardous materials. BBB Certification also insures our clients that no material will be illegally exported.
